LR Question 3 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: A just government never restricts the right of its…

QUESTION TYPE: Principle

PRINCIPLE: A government should only restricts its citizens rights if that restriction will prevent a threat to other citizens’:

i. property, or
ii. health

ANALYSIS: There are only two possible reasons for a government to restrict its citizens’ desires.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This sounds sensible. The government won’t restrict your desire to own a sports car. But it will prevent you from harming others by racing on the highway.
  2. This doesn’t have much to do with restricting desires.
  3. Same as B. The stimulus only tells us about when a government should restrict our right to act upon our desires.
  4. Why should the government restrict citizens’ desire to criticize the government? We have no proof that criticism will harm anyone’s health or property.
  5. Same as B and C. We have no idea when it’s just to put someone in prison. Maybe we found the criminal 3-5 years after the crime.

This has nothing to do with restricting desires.

Recap: The question begins with “A just government never restricts the right of its”. It is a Principle question. Learn how to master LSAT Principle questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
