LR Question 24 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Legal commentator: The goal of a recently enacted law…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be False

FACTS:

  1. The law is supposed to protect employees from secondhand smoke.
  2. The law doesn’t cover homes.

ANALYSIS: Before looking at the answers, play around with the two statements from the stimulus. How could they overlap?

Employees, and homes. What if there are employees in homes? This new law couldn’t protect those employees.

Remember, you’re trying to find a statement that must be false.

___________

  1. We have no idea if legislators intended to ban smoking in homes. So we can’t say if this is true or false.
  2. We don’t know if supporters think the law will be effective or not. We can’t say if this is true or false.
  3. We don’t know. The stimulus only mentioned workplaces and homes. We don’t know if the law also cover smoking in parks, public squares, etc.
  4. The stimulus didn’t mention “most people”. So we have no idea what they think.
  5. CORRECT. This can’t be true. The law can’t ban smoking in homes. So any household employees are out of luck.
