LSAT 142 | Section 3 | Reading Comprehension: Q14

LSAT Preptest 142 explanations

RC Question 14 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Lines 10-11 say that there has been no research of stealing thunder’s effectiveness in actual trials. This fact eliminates all the wrong answers.

___________

  1. The passage never mentions any surveys of lawyers, and lines 10-11 say there have been no actual legal studies of stealing thunder’s effectiveness. Though the second half of this answer is right; there were studies on simulated trials (see lines 13-14).
  2. The passage said there have been no studies of stealing thunder’s effectiveness in actual trials. See lines 11-12.
  3. The first half of this is wrong. Lines 11-12 say that there have been no studies of stealing thunder’s effectiveness in actual trials.
  4. Lines 11-12 say there have been no studies of stealing thunder’s effectiveness in actual trials. And I have no idea what the first half of this refers to: the passage never mentioned anything “analogous” to stealing thunder.
  5. CORRECT. This matches. Specifically, this refers to the simulated trials and the psychological research in lines 11-20. The psychological research supports the use of stealing thunder, but the research itself wasn’t law-related.
