LSAT 148 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q1

LSAT Preptest 148 explanations

RC Question 1 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The right answer is literally in the passage. Don’t waste time choosing between answers. Find the one that is right and supported. All the wrong ones are totally and utterly wrong.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Line 36 mentions a thought experiment.
  2. This didn’t happen. You might have picked this because Rawls’ theory eliminated injustice. But that’s not what “process of elimination” means. Process of elimination  refers to a process where you arrive at the truth by eliminating alternatives.
  3. No social institution is mentioned. An example of a social institution would be the courts, or a university, or the girl guides etc.
  4. This didn’t happen. A deduction from basic principles is: “All men are mortal. Socrates is a man. Therefore, socrates is mortal.”. Or, Euclidian math etc.
  5. This would involve consulting dictionary definitions of words or otherwise discussing words’ usage.
