LSAT 138 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q1

LSAT Preptest 138 explanations

RC Question 1 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The main point must be true, and cover the purpose of the entire passage.

It’s usually easiest to first eliminate answers that are not true.

Here, the purpose is to describe the history, role and characteristics of corridos.

___________

  1. This isn’t even true. The last sentence of paragraph 1 says that corridos help reaffirm the cohesiveness of border communities, but we don’t know if corridos are the main indicator of cohesiveness.
  2. Not even true. The passage doesn’t say why we know corridos have their roots in Spain’s ballad tradition.
  3. Way too specific. Cortez is only used as an example to explain corridos. Corridos themselves are the focus of the passage.
  4. This ignores the history of corridos, and the passage’s descriptions of how they use imagery and convention.
  5. CORRECT. Close enough. This doesn’t mention the use of imagery, but it covers the first and third paragraphs and comes close to summing up the passage.
