LSAT 138 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q4

LSAT Preptest 138 explanations

RC Question 4 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Metaphors are mentioned in the second paragraph. You should look there to confirm.

A metaphor uses one thing to describe something else. So if I say that the cattle stampede passed by lightly as a mist, then ‘mist’ is the metaphor, not stampede.

(Technically what I wrote is a simile, not a metaphor, since I used ‘as’. I don’t care)

___________

  1. The last few sentences of paragraph 2 mention cattle drives, but as a fact, not as a metaphorical comparison.
  2. CORRECT. The middle part of paragraph 2 mentions mist as a metaphor for a small fight.
  3. The middle part of paragraph 3 mentions a cypress tree, but it’s an actual tree, not a metaphorical tree.
  4. The middle part of paragraph 2 mentions a fight, but that’s the fact. Mist is used as a metaphor to describe the fight.
  5. The last few sentences of paragraph 2 mention stampedes. They are a fact, not a metaphor.
