LSAT 138 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q15

LSAT Preptest 138 explanations

RC Question 15 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The correct answer for main point questions must be true, and it must cover the whole passage.

You can first eliminate answers that aren’t true, then eliminate those that are incomplete.

___________

  1. This isn’t even true. Paragraph 4 says economists assumed diminishing returns.
  2. This isn’t true. Lack of rigor prevented the pin factory from being accepted. Rigor is a necessary condition. But it’s not sufficient. There are probably other reasons the invisible hand was accepted.
  3. This only describes the last paragraph.
  4. This only describes the second part of the second paragraph.
  5. CORRECT. This isn’t a satisfying answer, but it does directly summarize paragraphs 4 and 5. Paragraphs 1-3 were a lead up to those paragraphs. They showed there was a conflict. Paragraph 4 explained why the conflict had been ignored. Paragraph 5 implies the conflict will now have to be addressed, because economists are considering the pin factory.
