LSAT 139 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q14

LSAT Preptest 139 explanations

RC Question 14 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The first part of the sentence says “Because actos were based on participants personal experiences,”

So, palpable immediacy must be referring to how the performances demonstrated the personal experiences of the actors.

___________

  1. The passage didn’t mention physical distance. (e.g. that the performances happened, say, a meter away from the audiences.)
  2. This wasn’t mentioned in the passage. We don’t know if the performers addressed the audience or each other.
  3. The word “immediacy” was describing the performances themselves, not the process used to create and practice the performances.
  4. Same as C. The word “immediacy” was referring to the performances themselves, not to the process of creating them.
  5. CORRECT. See the discussion above. If you read the whole sentence in lines 37-39, this is clearly the best answer.

Okay but genuinely, how is B not correct? Doesn’t the previous sentence mention their goal in getting the audience to take action?

The key is to look at what “immediacy” is referring to in context. The sentence says actos had palpable immediacy because they were based on participants’ personal experiences. So the author is emphasizing how accurately and directly the performers’ real life experiences were conveyed to the audience. That aligns with E.

B shifts the focus to a specific performance technique of addressing lines directly to the audience. But the passage never mentioned speaking directly to the audience. The previous sentence does discuss inspiring the audience to social action, but that describes (as you said) a goal or purpose, not the exact mechanism that creates the immediacy. You could very well inspire someone to action without addressing them directly.
