LSAT 139 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q15

LSAT Preptest 139 explanations

RC Question 15 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The second sentence sets the context: the United Farm Workers had organized a boycott of California grapes, and that the United Farm Workers were trying to unionize.

So this explains why Váldez was doing theatre. He was helping the United Farmworkers’ strike by creating a political theatre for the farmworkers.

___________

  1. CORRECT. See the discussion above. The actos were motivated by a desire to help the unionization movement, and the actos showed aspects of the striking farmworkers’ lives.
  2. This means “Váldez had to overcome Chávez’s boycott as an obstacle.”. That’s nonsense: Váldez and Chávez were allies.
  3. There’s no objection. Sentence two is just talking about a boycott. A boycott that preceded the theatre.
  4. Lines 1-5 say that Mexican histories focus on Chávez as starting Chicano activism. But, they don’t say theatre history was ignored. In fact, lines 40-44 say that multiple historians studied Váldez and actos.
  5. The sentence is about a grape boycott. It explains nothing about Váldez!
