DISCUSSION: This question gives us no hints, so you just have to look at the answers and think about which is the most likely. Then check to see if you can confirm it in the passage.
Don’t focus on any of the answers until you look at all of them. Your goal should be to start at the most likely answer.
___________
- The passage actually suggests this isn’t the case. The third paragraph shows that most critics ignored carpas and credited Váldez alone. We only know that Broyles-González focussed on carpas.
- CORRECT. Lines 33-37 say that actos were comedic.
- Only Broyles-González mentioned carpas. We’re not told whether Váldez was aware his actors may have been influenced by carpas. Váldez may not have known what carpas were.
- This contradicts lines 17-26, which say that the actos emerged from the farmworkers acting out their daily experiences.
- The 1970s are only mentioned in lines 13-15, where the author tells us that Chicano theatre reached its greatest heights in the 1970s.
But we’re never told what Váldez did in the 1970s.
