LSAT Preptest 155 explanations

RC Question 19 Explanation

DISCUSSION: What is the peptide situation in the passage? Belcher and Hu noticed that peptides can harness DNA to make tiny complex structures, and proceeded to test them with different types of semiconductors with the goal of shrinking computer chips.

___________

  1. The peptide scientists don’t abandon their peptide research.
  2. The peptide scientists don’t research peptides for shrinking computer chip size, but inadvertently discover a new application.
  3. The peptide scientists haven’t yet determined the peptides to be “useful” in shrinking computer chip size – it’s just hypothesized to be.
  4. The peptide situation doesn’t unearth any harmful effects, so this one doesn’t match.
  5. CORRECT. “Volatile oil” is the peptides; “protection from fungal infection” is making nano sized structures; and the research to make the oil useful in human medical applications is the equivalent of the peptides research.
