LSAT Preptest 155 explanations

RC Question 22 Explanation

DISCUSSION: What would strengthen the prediction that Belcher and Hu’s research will eventually have commercial application?

The first paragraph tells us that the peptide research can have applications for nano circuits in computer chips. Computer chips can be commercialized, right? The correct answer could touch on this.

___________

  1. This won’t help make their research commercially applicable since they’re researching peptides, not DNA.
  2. CORRECT. We already know paragraph 2 that the crystals can already bind with the most common semiconductors, and Belcher and Hu are exploring other types of semiconductors. So if semiconductors are easily substitutable, then when Belcher and Hu manage to create nano circuits, then this answer choice makes it likely that their research will be commercially applicable.
  3. This isn’t mentioned as something important to the research’s commercial applicability.
  4. Quantity doesn’t matter.
  5. Even if Belcher and Hu monopolized the research for peptides, that doesn’t strengthen the possibility that their research will be commercially applicable.
