RC Question 4 Explanation

DISCUSSION: This looks tricky, but the elevations give us a clue. They’re only mentioned in lines 44-50. Nicaraguan forests were burnt, at low elevations. The result was forests full of nothing but pines.

Lines 37-38 tell us that burnt forests are homogeneous. And the Nicaraguan forests are homogenous pine, so B is the answer.

  1. This isn’t right because the high altitude pine forests were natural. See lines 49-50.
  2. CORRECT. See the explanation above. 
  3. Heterogenous forests are natural forests that haven’t been burned. See lines 37-38.
  4. Same as C.
  5. Lines 18-20 mention charcoal, but we’re not told about elevations.
