LSAT 137 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q16

LSAT Preptest 137 explanations

RC Question 16 Explanation

DISCUSSION: You should be able to find specific lines in passage A that justify the answer. If you just go on gut feeling, you’ll risk making a mistake.

If it takes a while for you to find lines, work on making a better mental map of the passage before starting the questions, and practice finding line references when you review.

___________

  1. Line 10 says that ecologists recognize that ecosystems are threatened. They recognize the ecological risks. They aren’t concerned with the economic impact of this destruction, or any other economic impacts.
  2. Passage A doesn’t say what defines an ecosystem.
  3. Passage A doesn’t mention extinctions. They just say that ecosystems will be ‘weakened’.
  4. A nonsense answer. We’re not told what people believed before Elton. His theory is the earliest belief we’re told about.
  5. CORRECT. See the third sentence of paragraph 1. Passage A says that ecologists realize that even healthy ecosystems are threatened. Passage B doesn’t say what ecologists think of Elton’s view.
