LSAT 107 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q22

LSAT Preptest 107 explanations

RC Question 22 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The author thinks the traditional sources can answer some questions (i.e. what did the law say), but they think it’s inadequate to answer other important questions (i.e. what did the law do?)

___________

  1. The sources wouldn’t be adequate to figure out how the law actually affected women, so they aren’t adequate for a modern historian.
  2. Hard to say. If you’re trying to find out how the law actually affected women then you have to look at the medieval sources, even if they’re hard to use.
  3. This goes too far. The author doesn’t think traditional sources are irrelevant, they just think we need to consider court records as well. Both aspects of the law are important.
  4. CORRECT. The sources aren’t completely irrelevant, but the most valuable information will come from analysis of court records.
  5. This might be true of medieval court records, but not the traditional sources. We currently lack good information on many issues of interest to historians of women.
