LSAT Preptest 145 explanations

RC Question 13 Explanation

DISCUSSION: I couldn’t prephrase this question. Just go into it knowing what you’re trying to prove: A painting can be beautiful, but lack artistic value because it’s not original.

___________

  1. This question is about artistic value. And this worthless answer doesn’t say a word about artistic value.
  2. CORRECT. Beautiful = aesthetic excellence. This shows that the artistic value of a painting is not just based on beauty. These reproductions lack artistic value because they’re only reproductions.
  3. This shows that forgers can fool experts. It doesn’t help support the argument that forgery doesn’t have much artistic value.
  4. This just tells us that most forgers fail. It doesn’t tell us whether the best forgeries can be excellent art.
  5. This just tells us that aesthetic criteria change. But this question is asking about what determines artistic value. That might not change. So this answer has zero impact.
