LSAT 141 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q2

LSAT Preptest 141 explanations

RC Question 2 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The survival of mammals was described in the fourth paragraph. This type of question has a precise answer that you can find in the passage. Meanwhile, the answer choices are specifically constructed to confuse you. Don’t look at them.

Instead, go back to the fourth paragraph, and see what it says. With practice, you can find the answer to questions like this in less than five seconds. You’ll save time you would have spent deciding between misleading answer choices.

___________

  1. The fourth paragraph says mammals weren’t adapted. We survived due to dumb luck (lines 54-57).
  2. CORRECT. Lines 43-48 say this directly.
  3. The passage never said that mammals were intelligent. This answer is just playing to your existing belief that mammals are intelligent because you’re a mammal.
  4. The passage never says that mammals used to live in a wide range of environments. This answer is trying to make you use your outside knowledge that mammals currently live in a wide range of environments.
  5. The passage never mentions mammalian reproduction. Maybe you were thinking of rabbits?
