LSAT 141 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q3

LSAT Preptest 141 explanations

RC Question 3 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Genetic mutations are in paragraph three. It’s a good idea to go back and skim that paragraph before looking at the answers. Shouldn’t take more than 5-10 seconds.

The point of doing this is to have all the information about genetic mutations fresh at hand. This lets you quickly eliminate nonsense answers.

___________

  1. The author never said how many mutations are passed down.
  2. This just combines paragraph 3 and paragraph 4 in a weird way. The author never said there’s a link between mass extinctions and genetic mutations.
  3. The author never mentions whether mutations change behavior or appearance.
  4. CORRECT. Lines 27-28 say this directly. (“Neither category” means most mutations aren’t helpful or harmful for reproduction.)
  5. Large and small species are an idea from paragraph 4, which deals with mass extinctions. The author never mentioned large and small in relation to mutations.
