DISCUSSION: Lines 6-12 describe Porter’s research on crafts. African-American crafts were iconographically linked to West African crafts. This means they visually similar, perhaps in subtle ways.
We’re looking for a situation where a group in a new country is influenced by the artistic styles of their home country. The influence can be subtle and unconscious.

- We want to find art that is similar, not different.
- The influence is going the wrong way. We want African art to influence America, and not the reverse.
- CORRECT. Perfect. These Chinese-Canadian authors are influenced by the structure of the art from their home country.
- This describes a minority food becoming popular with the majority culture. The crafts Porter researched may only have been popular among African-Americans.
- Immigrants are supposed to be influenced by the old country. In this case, the old country is Spain. But the Mexicans are rejecting Spanish influence.
