LSAT Preptest 103 explanations

RC Question 11 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Lines 6-12 describe Porter’s research on crafts. African-American crafts were iconographically linked to West African crafts. This means they visually similar, perhaps in subtle ways.

We’re looking for a situation where a group in a new country is influenced by the artistic styles of their home country. The influence can be subtle and unconscious.

___________

  1. We want to find art that is similar, not different.
  2. The influence is going the wrong way. We want African art to influence America, and not the reverse.
  3. CORRECT. Perfect. These Chinese-Canadian authors are influenced by the structure of the art from their home country.
  4. This describes a minority food becoming popular with the majority culture. The crafts Porter researched may only have been popular among African-Americans.
  5. Immigrants are supposed to be influenced by the old country. In this case, the old country is Spain. But the Mexicans are rejecting Spanish influence.
