  1. As far as we know, there was no mass media in the 1920s. Lines 20-22 say that the old system grew to become mass media.
  2. Other types of art are never mentioned.
  3. This initial discovery made the system possible. Hollywood saw the public was interested in stars’ lives and then they created the star system.
  4. CORRECT. See lines 14-19. The system helped Hollywood but it also helped the press.
     
    Cross-fertilization means that two plants each fertilize each other.
  5. Lines 14-19 mention cross-fertilization. They refer to the overall relationship between Hollywood and the press.
     
    Publicity agents were just a part of the larger system.
