LR Question 7 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Dr. Jones: The new technology dubbed “telemedicine” will provide…

QUESTION TYPE: Point at Issue

ARGUMENTS: Dr. Jones thinks that telecare will help rural patients, at least. Specialists in urban centers can examine them from a great distance.

Dr. Carabella thinks that telemedicine will eventually cause doctors to leave rural areas since examinations will no longer have to be done in person. Even urban care will eventually be affected.

ANALYSIS: The two doctors pretty clearly disagree on whether telecare will help rural patients.

___________

  1. They both seem to agree on this. Carabella agreed that rural patients would initially receive better care from specialists.
  2. Dr. Jones doesn’t express a clear opinion on whether telecare will be extended to urban areas.
  3. Dr. Jones thinks it will be widely adopted (and beneficial.) Dr. Carabella also seems to think that telecare will eventually be widely adopted (and harmful.)
  4. This depends. They don’t really say anything about the patients who need it most. Jones thinks urban patients will still be seen personally. And Carabella does think rare cases (the most important?) will have personal examinations.
  5. CORRECT. Jones is pretty clear that telecare will benefit rural patients. Carabella thinks it will hurt all patients.
