LSAT 108 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q17

LSAT Preptest 108 explanations

RC Question 17 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The main point of the passage is in the third paragraph. The economists are wrong to argue that corporate profit always helps society. A corporation should not seek profit if it is immoral.

___________

  1. CORRECT. The author says this at the end of the third paragraph. The passage was an argument, and everything builds up to this final point.
  2. The author never says this. Corporations seem to have an obligation to be moral, but the author doesn’t specify exactly what the obligation is. Corporate obligation might be somewhat different than the obligations of a groups of individuals, added together.
  3. The third paragraph contradicts this. A CEO shouldn’t seek an immoral profit (lines 52-55).
  4. This only describes the first paragraph. It ignores the author’s argument against the economists.
  5. The third paragraph contradicts this. A profitable decision may hurt the public (lines 42-46).
