LSAT Preptest 108 explanations

RC Question 18 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The paper mill provides an example of a hypothetical situation where a corporation would legally makes a profit and hurts society.

This contradicts the economists, who said that corporate profit always helps society (lines 33-34).

___________

  1. The author only describes this situation as a “possibility”.
  2. CORRECT. This hypothetical situation is a counterexample to the economists’ claims that profits always help the public.
  3. The author never says whether it would be difficult to force corporations not to do scummy things.
  4. Same as A. The situation is only hypothetical. The author wanted to show that it’s possible for corporations to act badly.
  5. This is too extreme. The author didn’t say that corporations always act badly. The author just wanted to show that they could.
