LSAT Preptest 108 explanations

RC Question 25 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The third paragraph elaborates on the views of the linguists who think that language only relates to objects based on agreed upon conventions.

It also explains how this theory affects science.

___________

  1. The linguists from the third paragraph disagree that language corresponds to things.
  2. CORRECT. Assuming truth means linguistic truth, this is correct. The third paragraph expands on the idea that words only have meaning if we agree they have meaning.
  3. The essentialist position is never mentioned outside of the second paragraph.
  4. There is no debate about the nature of explanation. Certainly not in the third paragraph.

This answer is trying to confuse you by alluding to the lack of debate about the nature of scientific knowledge acquisition (lines 51-55).
  5. The first paragraph explains why math is a language (lines 3-6).

Bit frustrated with how B is worded. I was put off by the broad use of “truth”. Your explanation makes sense “Assuming truth means linguistic truth” but I didn’t make that leap while reading.
