LSAT Preptest 108 explanations

RC Question 4 Explanation

DISCUSSION: In context, romantic means “idealized” or “not real”. Think of the word “Romanticism”.

Kahlo is imagining an Aztec society that never existed. Her idealized Aztec society is her idea for a better Mexican society.

Many use the wrong answers refer to the sense of “romantic” that relates to love.

___________

  1. Kahlo wasn’t trying to escape reality. She wanted to use her vision of the Aztecs to change reality.
  2. CORRECT. Kahlo was nostalgic for her imagined Aztec society. She idealized the Aztecs. She ignored their faults and increased their good qualities.
  3. Kahlo was certainly imaginative, but her Aztec visions were more than a flight of fancy. She wanted to use her vision of the Aztec world to reshape Mexican society.
  4. Impractical? Line 24 describes a type of nationalism that had practical, real-world consequences for Mexico.
  5. Overwrought? That means “too complicated”. Kahlo’s vision seemed fairly simple: The Aztecs had a better, Marxist society, and we should be more like them.
