LSAT Preptest 108 explanations

RC Question 26 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Lines 21-24 describe the second linguistic theory. Words have meaning only because we agree they have meaning.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This is it. Words have meaning only because we agree on their meaning.
  2. Nonsense. No one said that “the sphere is crimson” would be a worse sentence.
  3. This is the essentialist view (lines 19-21).
  4. Same as C.
  5. This just jumbles together random concepts from the passage.

The linguists from lines 21-24 think words have meaning because we agree on their meaning. They weren’t talking about math, specifically. That’s just another element from the passage.
