LSAT 110 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q11

LSAT Preptest 110 explanations

RC Question 11 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Read backwards from line 39 and you’ll see that it’s telling us how we should understand the word ecstasy.

The word has several different meanings, and the author is says we should use one of them in particular: standing out from yourself.

___________

  1. We’re not told what the standard meaning of the word ecstasy is. We’re just told to understand it according to a rare meaning.
  2. CORRECT. We’re supposed to understand ecstasy according to this etymological meaning. See 37-39.
  3. Blues performances aren’t mentioned anywhere near line 39. The passage is talking about West Africa at that point.
  4. In line 31 the passage says the blues can be linked to the practices referred to in line 39. So the passage suggests they are similar.
  5. Same as C. This section of the passage talks about West African rites, not the blues.
